1. Read Information From Multiple Sources:

The first and utmost thing that you must keep in your mind to avoid plagiarism is not to collect information from a single source. Gathering information for your write-up from a single source maximizes the chances of content duplication. Therefore, whenever you start searching information on any particular topic, make sure to check out, at least, 3 to 4 sources. In this way, the chances of content plagiarism will be reduced to zero.

2. Paraphrase:

Another beneficial practice to come up with a plagiarism-free piece of paper is to paraphrase the already available information. Paraphrasing simply refers to the process of reading information and writing in your own words. However, if you are unable to give your own words to a particular sentence, you may replace the words with their best-picked synonyms or simply changing the position of words.

For example, if the already available information is in active voice, you can change it into passive voice. Same goes for direct and indirect narration. However, try not to pick more than 3 words in a row from original source. In case, you are picking more than 3 words in a row, you will be required to use quotation.

3. Quoting:

One of the most effective ways of vanishing plagiarism from content is to quote the information that has been copied from the original source. However, make sure that you have quoted the words as they are originally written and published and have not interpreted anything of your own while quoting. It is because no one likes to be misinterpreted or misquoted. In case of misquoting the original text, there are still chances of being alleged of content plagiarism.

4. Citing:

Citing is also one of the most powerful ways to elude duplication in academic write-ups. All you need to do is to follow the formatting guidelines such as MLA, APA, Harvard, etc, provided by your institute. All of these citation styles usually include credits to the original author, source and date of publication. Again, citing should be done properly else the paper will not be plagiarism-free.

5. Referencing:

Last but not the least is adding a reference page to your academic write-up. Similar to citing, it must be composed according to the formatting guidelines as given by your educational institute. The information this page will have includes name of author(s), publication date and title with original source.
