Facebook Imitating Twitter Yet Again By Introducing HashTag Feature
Facebook Inc, the social media GIANT has finally launched the most-awaited feature the “hashtag (#)”
Though “hashtag” isn’t a new feature in the digital community, but there is no doubt that it is one of the most popular symbols that digital users prefer to use profoundly throughout their walls, posts or tweets. The feature was first introduced by Twitter, yet another popular community that offers micro-posts, and later adopted by Google+, Instagram, Pinterest and now Facebook. The feature allows the users to browse the ever-changing streams of feeds within a specific topic.
Now with Facebook implementing this feature to its GIGANTIC platform, we’ll now be able to avail the many benefits that this powerful feature offers. According to the director of platform partnerships and operations at Facebook, Justin Osofsky, “Between 88 and 100 million Americans log in to Facebook every night during prime time TV hours, which represents a significant opportunity for broadcasters, advertisers and our other partners,”. Keeping this statement in mind, hashtag can greatly assist savvy marketers to promote their brand even more constructively by leveraging on this feature just as they have been on other networks like Twitter and Google+.
Even if that’s true, it is still not clear how much benefit it’ll give to users or advertisers because unlike Tweets, which is accessible and viewable to the general public, Facebook posts are viewable to only people who are in your network, i.e., your friends and the friends of your friends. Still, we’ll see how much impact it’ll create as compared to other network when it is globally launched in the upcoming weeks.
As we clearly know, it is not the only feature that Facebook has adopted from other social network as last month it copied the “verified” badge feature of the same network: Twitter. Nonetheless, it is a pretty clever step that would yield the results that Facebook has in mind.
